چکیده

Background Study purpose To detect differences in extracellular volume (ECV) and systolic strain in hypertensive patients with LVH as compared to hypertensive patients without LVH and age-matched controls. Background: Increased ECV due to diffuse myocardial fibrosis in hypertensive patients may be an underlying mechanism contributing to increased cardiovascular risk. Moreover HTN patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) are at higher risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality when compared to HTN Non-LVH subjects. We compared levels of ECV and systolic strain between HTN LVH, HTN Non-LVH and control subjects.

Increased extracellular volume and altered mechanics are associated with LVH in hypertensive heart disease, not hypertension alone.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to assess the relationship among extracellular volume (ECV), native T1, and systolic strain in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (HTN LVH), hypertensive patients without LVH (HTN non-LVH), and normotensive controls. BACKGROUND Diffuse myocardial fibrosis in HTN LVH patients, as reflected by increased ECV and native T1, may be an unde...

Role of oxidative stress in the aortic constriction-induced ventricular hypertrophy in rat

Introduction:Severe abdominal aortic constriction above the renal arteries induces arterial hypertension above the stenotic site that is the cause of cardiac hypertrophy. Previous studies have shown that high blood pressure induces myocardial oxidative stress with conflicting results. In the present study, we assessed the effects of acute hypertension on the myocardial oxidative stress an...

Comprehensive intra/extracellular myocardial structural and functional characterization of hypertensive heart disease phenotypes

Background The European Society of Cardiology recognizes different hypertensive heart disease (HHD) phenotypes. HHD can be classified into 4 left ventricular (LV) phenotypes by indexed LV mass, mass to volume ratio (M:V) and indexed end diastolic volume (EDV) (Table 1). All remodeling/ hypertrophy phenotypes carry adverse cardiovascular prognosis, but the underlying mechanisms are incompletely ...

Distinct upregulation of extracellular matrix genes in transition from hypertrophy to hypertensive heart failure.

Cardiac hypertrophy in response to pressure overload is initially beneficial but eventually leads to heart failure, a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western countries. Although abnormalities in left ventricular (LV) diastolic filling are early features associated with pressure overload-induced LV hypertrophy, the molecular mechanisms regulating transition to diastolic heart failu...

Electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is not associated with increased in-hospital adverse events in patients experiencing first non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: A single center study

Background: There is conflicting data about prognostic implication of electrocardiographic (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with first non- ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). We aimed to examine the association of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on admission electrocardiogram with adverse outcomes in patients with NSTEMI. Methods: In the present study, ...
